Couple relationship experiences: A gender-based approach

Abstract
Couple relationships are important in an individual'slife since strong emotions are associated withinvolvement in such a relationship. A dyadicconnection differs from a relationship with friends andacquaintances, as couples share a very close anddelicate union. Though the positive associationbetween life satisfaction and marriage is wellestablishedin the available literature, other researchstudies also indicated a difference in reporting amongthe couples in terms of satisfaction in marriage, whichis a prominent indicator of happiness in marriage. Thestudy intended to examine the experience of couplerelationships in males and females. For this purpose,fifty couples aged 25 to 45 years married for more thantwo years were taken in the study. The study was a nonexperimental,cross-sectional study. The sample wasselected using a random sampling technique. Asignificant difference was observed in males andfemales in their experience of marital relationships interms of marital satisfaction, dyadic adjustment, andmarital conflict. The study has clinical implications inunderstanding couple dynamics and factors affecting amarital relationship.
