LGBTQI Activism and Human Rights in Pakistan, its History and Progress

Abstract

In the past two decades (2005-2019), much progress has been made inregards to the push for the advancement of transgender equality in Pakistan. There has been a considerable push towards formulation andimplementation of legislation such as the ‘Transgender Bill of Rights,2019’ that protects the rights of transgender persons. On the contrary tosuch positive developments, Pakistan has also been pushing forwardwith an anti-LGBTQ agenda on the National and International level. Inthis essay, we explore the present human rights situation, the portrayalof the transgender community in the media and also the progression oftransgender activism in the country.
